Abstract

This essay proposes a reflection on the social relations built in the city of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands, Argentina, taking as a main theoretical framework the concept of "figuration" of Norbert Elías.

Through different texts related to the subject, it is stated that in Ushuaia there is a process of regulated social evolution based on the relations of power forces developed around the rivalry betwen old and new settlers. This characteristic is based mainly on its high population mobility.
