Abstract

The inclusion of María Eva Duarte de Perón on the $100 bill in 2012 began a dispute over the portability of meanings on Argentine banknotes. Amidst issues of aesthetics and ideology, money has emerged as a means of conveying a politically charged message, a practice that has been practiced almost uninterruptedly since that year. This paper explores the impact on public opinion of the launch of the family of "animales autóctonos de la Argentina" during Mauricio Macri’s administration (2015-2019), the family of "heroínas y héroes de la patria" during the Alberto Fernández administration (2019-2023), and the inclusion of Juan Bautisita Alberdi during the presidency of the libertarian government of Javier Milei.
