From Invisibility to Stigma: Media Representations, Newscasts, and Violence in Northwestern and Northeastern Argentina

Abstract

The book “De la invisibilidad al estigma: representaciones mediáticas, telediarios y violencias en el noroeste y noreste argentino” (2022) is the result of collaborative work by twenty-one researchers from five public universities in northern Argentina. In addition to the geographical and thematic diversity that distinguishes this collection of articles, the authors' focus is on the media representations of groups in situations of subalternity in five television newscasts from the provinces of Salta, San Salvador de Jujuy, Misiones, Corrientes, and Chaco, as well as the forms of discrimination and stigmatization embedded in the discourse of the television news.
