The growing global concern about environmental degradation has led to the adoption of international agreements aimed at improving environmental management and promoting public participation. In the region, one of the most significant is the Escazú Agreement, which aims to strengthen environmental governance in Latin America and the Caribbean. This agreement promotes transparency, access to information, and justice in environmental matters, allowing citizens to actively participate in decision-making processes that affect their surroundings.
In Argentina, there is a proposal to design a Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR), whose implementation faces several challenges. These could include a lack of resources, poor coordination between government levels, and resistance from certain industrial sectors. The territorialization of environmental policies, which involves adapting global strategies to local realities and needs, becomes essential in this context. However, this process is not without obstacles, as the political, administrative, and socioeconomic particularities of each region can complicate implementation. Overcoming these challenges requires coordinated efforts between the government, the private sector, and the community, in order to ensure sustainable development and environmental protection for future generations.
