Social policies and their effects in urban space. A case study based on an addiction prevention-care center aimed at young people

Abstract

The article contributes to understanding the relationship between social policies and urban space through the analysis of a preventive-assistance center for addictions aimed at young people located in a city in Argentine Patagonia.The approach of this center provides empirical evidence to consolidate theoretical aspects about the disputed and conflictive nature of the process of implementing a social policy, its ways of registering in space and its ways of intervening in the experiences and sociability of the recipient subjects. The empirical data comes from primary sources, constructed through the semi-structured interview technique. The article concludes that the history of space and its social relations influences the development of public policies that will be implemented in it and vice versa.
