Natural phenomenon and latent threats in the town of Volcán, Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy province, Argentine.

Abstract

This article proposes a case study of the town of Volcán, Jujuy province, Argentine Republic in connection with related concepts such as vulnerability, natural phenomenon and risks. To do this, in the first sections the methodological questions aimed at presenting the research, introducing the subject, presenting background and developing a brief theoretical framework, addressing the main concepts are developed.

In the following sections, the problem is presented, firstly providing a spatial location of the place where the phenomenon occurs. Next, the threat is presented, its characteristics are provided, making a chronology and detailing the consequences and problems it causes.

Then, concepts related to vulnerability, risk and capacities related to risk prevention are analyzed. In these sections, an analysis of the theory is carried out in connection with the study of the Volcán case.

Finally, conclusions are provided regarding the case addressed and on the concepts worked, evidencing the need to continue carrying out studies and research on natural and environmental events that are closely linked to society and its vulnerabilities, in addition to highlighting the importance of sensitizing populations about the knowledge of actions to be taken in the event of events of these characteristics.
