The concept of economic development has evolved notably towards the second half of the 20th century. With the fall of the welfare state, and the emergence of successful experiences of European growth (such as the case of the industrial districts of Spain, and the Center and Northeast of Italy, among others), the local scene became the potential "development space”. The economic reconceptualization of "the local", under the name of "territory", gave renewed importance to small and medium enterprises.
Understanding the Planned Industrial Sector of Almirante Brown (SIPAB) as an important industrial territory of the southern suburbs of the Province of Buenos Aires, this paper seeks to answer what kind of competitiveness is achieved in the SIPAB? And what was the recent performance of the firms belonging to this industrial district?
