Need for rethinking development objectives

Abstract

Planet Earth ecosystem’s dynamics are being altered by the way the socio-economic system works dominated by logic of infinite production and consumption growth. But this way of operating not only generates environmental problems but also huge social inequalities. In this context, we need to rethink what are the objectives of development: increased consumption and production for what and for whom.This essay raises basic questions from which I develop my doctoral research¹. The intention of this essay is to share questions and data to contribute to a debate that was strong in the 70s and needs to be strengthened again under the actual data.
