Abstract

The educational system in the National Territories of Patagonia was characterized, during the first half of the 20th century, by the direct relationship with the national State through the National Council of Education, on which it directly depended. However, the reality of the territories presented conditions for state advancement in education. During the 1930s the strategies used by the CNE were changing in the face of a negative diagnosis on the persistence of illiteracy in the Territories. This article aims to analyze the growth of the education system of the Governorate of Río Negro through the Censuses of the years 1932, 1940 and 1948, seeking to cross-talk speeches on illiteracy and the figures provided by the censuses.
